Perhaps you have already sincerely said to yourselves: „My colleague is not able to communicate possible solutions openly with me, how can I cooperate with him!” Or: „This colleague is sharing so many details with me again instead off being interested in the whole picture of the situation. Terrible!” Sometimes we share these types of claims with others or we say it to ourselves and feel very frustrated. But the mistake is no one’s. The fault is only the fact that we don’t use diversity as an advantage. We take it only as something what is different than our way of acting or thinking and because of this, we don’t like it. What is MBTI Personality Type is the term most commonly associated with the model of personality development created by Isabel Myers and Katherine Briggs, the authors of the world´s most widely used personality inventory, the MBTI or Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. MBTI is based on 70 years of research and is administered to over 2 million people each year. Myers and Briggs concluded that there were four main ways people differed from one another. She called these differences "preferences". An example would be that although we all use both of our hands, most of us have a preference for one over the other and "it" takes the lead in many of the activities in which we use our hands. The MBTI looks at outcomes based on 4 preferences Where, primarily do you direct your energy? How do you prefer to process information? How do you prefer to make decisions? How do you prefer to organize your life? The permutations of these four preferences result in the 16 personality types that form the basis of Myers´ and Briggs´ model and the MBTI inventory. Differences in these preferences can mean that individual’s value different things and can communicate in very different styles. This can really get in the way of the team operating effectively. Such differences can be overcome with mutual respect and individuals knowing what the value of different preferences are and what this adds to the team. You will understand who you are and why you do what you do, and why others do what they do.
